One Year Later...

So you all have given up on me.
I don't blame you.
I would give up on me too if I hadn't heard from me in over a year.
But as with life, this blog shall go on and on and on and on and...
(You get the pic.)
I wanted to get everyone caught up on some IBTrav art news.
In the last year:
  • I moved to Orlando, FL and became employed as an in-house graphic artist for a headwear company.
  • I had artwork featured in the DVD releases National Treasure 2: Book Of Secrets, Silverhawks Season 1 Volume 1, and the upcoming DVD release of Mirrors.
  • I became obssessed with the pop culture phenom known as High School Musical and yes, I am over 30 AND a guy. Whatevs.
  • I found some scallywags on ebay that are trying to sell shirts with my artwork emblazoned on them, so, I feel like I "made it" (even though it pisses me off).
  • I discovered a profile on IMDB for my work on the Monster Squad DVD. I am on IMDB. That is so sweet.

I haven't posted any new artwork on here yet but promise on getting stuff up regularly again. The art done for DVDs will slowly be posted as soon as everything gets officially released.
Look for a links section to be added to this site soon also.
That is all folks. Sorry for the year long absence. I promise to be a better internet presence in the coming months.
Stay tuned for newness!

Krites Attack!

Back with some more Alien vs. Gremlin vs. Critter art.
This time, the Krites are gangin' up on the big ol' Alien.
Think they can devour him whole before his acid blood melts em' all?
And where are the Gremlins?
Stay tuned!

And in the third corner...Aliens!

Ok, the biggest and baddest mofos have entered the ring.
The Aliens.
They've taken on the Predators. Now they take one my fave 80's creature feature characters.
The Aliens are not my fave out of the 3 creatures, but, definitely the deadliest.
Coming soon...how does it look when these three (fullgrown) creatures do battle?
Which species will come out on top????
Stay tuned...

In this corner...Critters!

Krites! Krites! Krites!
All the grown Krites are gathered and ready for attack.
These ferocious furballs are like piranhas and are vicious.
Think they could eat through Alien skin?
There's one more species of creature that need to be grouped.
Stay tuned!

In this corner...Gremlins!

The Gremlins are all gathered, ready for attack.
Here they are having eaten after midnight and hatched from their cocoons.
Ok, I just love doing these drawings.
Geeky, yes.
However, it is really giving me practice doing this and feeding those nagging ideas in my head at night.

The Battle Continues...

Aliens seem to be having the upper hand, even in their small form.
Can the Mogwai and Krites come out on top?
They haven't even faced the full-grown Aliens yet. Yipes.
I have a feeling the 2 small creatures can fend for themselves...
Keep tuning in to see more of the continuing fight of all fights.
In other art news, I will be changing the HorrorHound Weekend poster I previously worked on, to add some new guests and take out some that have unfortunately cancelled. The revised art will be posted here as soon as its approved and completed.
The countdown to Halloween is upon us! The best darn holiday is jusss around the corner.
So get ta bobbin' for some apples and to scarin' trick-or-treaters!

Three's Company: AvGvC

As promised, I have added one more creature to the "what if?" battle of all battles.
Although the "Alien" from the Alien movie series is locked into battle with the Predator in various comic titles and in 2 movies (1 upcoming one this Winter), I couldn't resist the urge to see what would happen if that monster did battle with the smaller beasties from the Gremlins films and Critters films.
Who would come out on top?
Aliens start out small: as facehuggers, then chestbursters, then into those big ugly monsters that lunge from the hissing vents of spacecrafts to kill people. This makes them vulnerable to attach from those little Mogwai and Krites. Mogwai seems innocent enough but will bite a brotha if hungry. Those Krites will eat anything cuz they ALLLWAYS hunnngry.
It's so much fun to have nothing but these thoughts in my mind throughout the day.
Get a life you ask?
Nah.
No thanks.
Wait'll you see what happens when those lil' mogwai eat after midnight...

Gremlins Vs. Critters: GvC

Freddy vs. Jason.
Aliens vs. Predator.
Nothing like 80's icons pitted against one another in bloody battle.
Here is another battle I would like to see: the battle between small little creature feature stars, the Gremlins vs. Critters.
In 1985, I was obsessed with the movie Gremlins. In 1986, riding the success of that film, New Line Cinema released their own knockoff of the "small terror" formula with Critters. I thoroughly enjoyed that film as well.
Why not pit the two characters together? Overall, who you think would win?
Gremlins have that whole "multiply with water" thing and "feeding them after midnight turns them into bigger monsters". Critters (or Krites) have that whole "shoot pine needles that stun prey" thing and the fact they can munch through anything and the whole "bunch together to make a big Critter".
I will let you decide.
Over the next few days, you will see that I am adding another "species" of cinematic baddie into the mix. See who should come out the winner of a 3-way between the iconic creature feature stars.
Enjoy!

New art

New art as promised!
My fine art-ish take on a beloved 80's film from my collection, Teen Wolf.
It is entitled, "Metamorphosis".
Can you feel the emotion and social commentary?
Have a great weekend!

HorrorHound Weekend poster project

Just finished the HorrorHound Weekend poster project.
The art is based off the poster image from the film "The Warriors" and includes all of the upcoming guests for the show.
Hope I get to make it to a HorrorHound Weekend at some point.
As a horror geek, it'd be a dream come true!
I mean, they got Evil Ed from Fright Night! DAYUM!

Branchin' Out

Hey guys!
Working on a poster for HorrorHound Magazine.
They have started hosting horror conventions now and have asked me to create a poster for their upcoming November show.
SO, I am elbow deep in work, but, I wanted to let you all know that I have expanded my art to a new extension of the net.
You can now see my art on Flickr.
Go here to view different samples of my work.
Put up some pieces you haven't seen before on there and I also plan on using my Flickr account to document ALL of my work over time so that I (and viewers if interested) can track my progression. Not to mention it's great exposure and is reaching a broader audience.
I also plan on compiling all the art I have done for Columbia SC's Free Times publication's Crime Blotter section since 2003 (that's a LOTTA artwork!).
Anyways, that's that.
Also, be on the lookout for new artwork soon(it's just on the horizon).
Hope you all are well and are happy.
Take care!
Oh yeh, Happy Labor Day (no more white shoes!)

Oh You're So Cool Brewster!

Please forgeeeeve me for being gone so long.
Just completed a large project for a client and it made me ignore you all.
I promise to treat you all better next time, dear readers.
Here's a personal illustration piece I just finished.
It's been sitting on the back burner for months and I am glad to say it's finally done and available to share with everyone.
It's an illustration based on one of my favorite films of all time, 1985's Fright Night.
This was done with pen and ink and then scanned, cleaned up in Illustrator (line work) and then digitally colored in Photoshop.
I would love to make prints of this one sometime.
Expect more artwork here (random sketches, imagery, etc) on this blog.
I am trying to stick to my promise of regular updates to the site and posts to the blog.
Hold me responsible if I slack, people.
(That mainly means you, Bri).

Monster Squad on DVD tomorrow!

Hey everyone!
Just wanted to let you all know that the 80's cinematic gem, The Monster Squad, is finally finding it's way to DVD after a long wait by fans and movie enthusiasts tomorrow, Tuesday, July 24th.
It happens to be my fave movie of all time and it ALSO happens to feature a documentary on the 2nd disc of the package (it's a 2 disc anniversary edition) that has artwork done by moi.
Yes that's right.
A fan's dream come true!
I was so lucky to illustrate and design the chapter title screens for the documentary, Monster Squad Forever! featured on disc 2 of the package.
So, go out, purchase this DVD, support the filmmakers and show studios that this film has a strong fanbase.
Also get it because yours truly's art is in it, dammit. ;)
